How far is Centro from the places people ask about?
Centro is 0.61 miles from ACC Highland and 0.70 miles from Highland Station in a straight line. It is 2.18 miles from Mueller, 3.58 from UT Austin, 4.21 from Downtown and 5.12 from The Domain. The table below adds road distance, drive estimate and every walk, bike or transit figure we measured.
How to read it: “Straight line” is the distance on a map from the Census geocode for 824 Camino La Costa. “By road” and the drive time are OSRM routing estimates with no live traffic. “Walk,” “bike” and “transit” figures are Google Maps data we queried on 2026-11-02. “Not measured” means we have no source for it, and we did not guess.
| Destination | Straight line | By road and drive estimate (OSRM, no traffic) | Walk, bike or transit (basis) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACC Highland, 6101 Highland Campus Dr | 0.61 miles | 1.2 miles, about 3 min | Walk 1.2 miles, 26 to 28 min (Google Maps data) |
| Highland Station (Red Line) | 0.70 miles | 1.2 miles, about 3 min; Apartments.com lists 1.3 miles, 2 min | Walk 1.3 miles, 28 to 33 min (Google Maps data) |

Drive times are free-flow estimates. Peak traffic on I-35 will add time, so use “about” and plan with a buffer. Cross Creek Hospital is 2,803 meters (1.74 miles) away in a straight line, and Apartments.com lists a 5 minute drive of 2.7 miles. For Mueller Market District, Apartments.com lists a 6 minute drive of 3.1 miles.
Which places are within a mile or two?
Highland Station and ACC Highland are the closest named places. ACC Highland is a campus of Austin Community College at 6101 Highland Campus Dr. It is 0.61 miles in a straight line, but the walking route is 1.2 miles. Highland Station is 0.70 miles in a straight line and 1.3 miles on foot.
Both sit near the old Highland Mall site. ACC lists programs including culinary arts, fashion design, music, radio-TV-film and game design. Wikipedia says Highland Station is at Airport Boulevard and Highland Mall Boulevard, directly across from the old mall. Out to about two miles are Crestview Station at 1.10 miles, North Loop at 1.16, Windsor Park at 1.35 and Crestview’s map point at 1.66. How far is Mueller and the hospitals nearby?
Mueller is 2.18 miles from Centro in a straight line, measured to the Thinkery at 1830 Simond Ave. The road trip is 3.3 miles and about 6 minutes by an OSRM estimate with no traffic. We did not measure a bus, rail or bike time, so plan the trip as a drive for now.
Dell Children’s Medical Center, adjacent to Mueller, is 1.94 miles away in a straight line and 2.9 miles by road, about 6 minutes. Wikipedia describes it as a “32-acre campus with 248 patient beds.” St. David’s Medical Center is 2.97 miles in a straight line, 3.8 miles by road. Dell Seton Medical Center at UT is 4.12 miles in a straight line, 4.9 miles by road. We make no claim about care or quality at any hospital. Read apartments near Mueller for the park, museum and grocery facts, and our post on Highland to Mueller routes for route ideas. The Mueller glossary entry defines the term.
How far is Hyde Park, UT Austin and Downtown?
UT Austin is 3.58 miles from Centro in a straight line and 5.0 miles by road, about 11 minutes by an OSRM estimate with no traffic. Hyde Park is closer at 2.31 miles in a straight line. Downtown, measured at 1100 Congress Ave, is 4.21 miles in a straight line and 5.4 miles by road.
Route 7 “serves Hyde Park & campus up north,” according to CapMetro. For the campus trip, Google Maps data from 2026-11-02, about 9 pm, gave 48 minutes by transit (route 337 plus route 320, 9.4 miles) and 56 minutes (route 337 plus route 1, 6.6 miles), each with one transfer. The bike ride is 3.9 to 4.9 miles and 20 to 25 minutes. We did not measure daytime transit or any Downtown transit time. Wikipedia describes Downtown as the area bound by Lamar Boulevard, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Interstate 35 and Lady Bird Lake. See apartments near Hyde Park, apartments near UT Austin and Downtown and our post on Highland to Downtown without a car.
How far is The Domain and the north side?
The Domain is 5.12 miles from Centro in a straight line and 6.1 miles by road, about 11 minutes by an OSRM estimate with no traffic. Wikipedia describes it as a center in northwest Austin, and says its first phase opened on March 9, 2007.
We did not measure a transit time to The Domain, so we make no claim about a train or bus trip there. Samsung Austin Semiconductor (a map point) is 5.09 miles in a straight line and 7.2 miles by road, about 13 minutes. ACC Highland’s site lists a Texas A&M Engineering Academy sponsored by Samsung Austin Semiconductor, but that is a program fact, not a commute claim. See apartments near The Domain and the The Domain glossary entry.
How far is Austin-Bergstrom airport?
The airport is 8.54 miles from Centro in a straight line. Two sources give two road figures. OSRM gives 12.8 miles and about 16 minutes with no traffic. Apartments.com lists 16.7 miles and 26 minutes. The gap comes from different routes and different traffic assumptions.
For planning, use the longer figure, and add time for the hour you will travel. We did not measure a transit time to the airport. Compare the two numbers, not just the result. Each row in the table shows its basis for this reason.
Which trips are shortest and which are longest?
Ranked by straight line, the shortest trips are ACC Highland (0.61 miles) and Highland Station (0.70). The longest in the table is Austin-Bergstrom airport at 8.54 miles. Ranked by estimated drive time with no traffic, the trips run from about 3 minutes to about 16 minutes.
- ACC Highland and Highland Station: about 3 minutes by road, 1.2 miles each.
- North Loop and Windsor Park: about 5 minutes, 2.2 miles each.
- Crestview, Mueller, Dell Children’s and St. David’s: about 6 minutes.
- Hyde Park and Dell Seton at UT: about 7 minutes.
- Downtown: about 9 minutes, 5.4 miles.
- UT Austin and The Domain: about 11 minutes.
- Samsung Austin Semiconductor: about 13 minutes.
- Austin-Bergstrom airport: about 16 minutes by OSRM, 26 by Apartments.com.
The order by drive time does not match the order by straight line. Roads, highways and the I-35 frontage change the picture. The walk to ACC Highland is twice its straight line for that reason.
How were these distances measured?
We started every straight-line figure at the U.S. Census geocode for “824 CAM LA COSTA, AUSTIN, TX, 78752” and measured to a point for the named place. The point sits on Camino La Costa, not on a building. Place points for neighborhoods such as Hyde Park, Windsor Park and North Loop come from OpenStreetMap, so they mark a map label, not a border.
| Figure type | How we got it | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| Straight line | Distance between two map points | Roads, highways, rail and walls |
| By road, drive estimate | OSRM free-flow routing estimate | Live traffic, parking time, stoplights |
| Walk, bike, transit | Google Maps data queried 2026-11-02 | Daytime schedules, weather, hills |
| Apartments.com figures | Listing page for Centro | Their route and traffic assumptions |
Route changes happen often. CapMetro changed service in June 2026, for instance. Re-check any route in the CapMetro trip planner before you rely on it. The getting around Highland pillar lists the bus routes we read, and our car-free commute guide walks through the planning steps.
