What does the Red Line do for a Downtown trip?
The Red Line connects Highland to Downtown by rail. CapMetro describes Route 550 as having 10 stations from Downtown to Leander. Read the Metrorail Red Line entry for the basics, or the Highland Station entry for the stop.
We do not quote a ride time. Look up the Red Line timetable for days, hours and how often trains run before you rely on it. The Highland commute table gives a side-by-side view.
What should I check before I rely on this trip?
Check four things. First, the Red Line timetable for days and hours. Second, the walk to Highland Station, in daylight and after dark. Third, the next Route 337 trip from the Camino La Costa stop. Fourth, your return trip, since the last train or bus sets your evening plans. Test the whole route once before you sign a lease.
Is the Gold Line an option?
No. Wikipedia calls Highland the planned northern terminus of the Gold Line bus rapid transit line. A plan is not a service. Use the Red Line and the buses above.
Can I live car-light in Highland?
Yes, for some trips. Living car-light here means a mix of walking, buses, rail and bike. It works best if your Downtown trips are planned and your errands are on a bus route. Centro lists bike storage as a community amenity, and our car-free commute guide walks through the steps.
Centro is a studio community with homes starting at $699. As listed on 2026-11-02, 1st floor studios run $729 to $1,114 and 2nd floor studios run $699 to $1,099 per month. Prices change daily, so check the floor plans. For the wider picture, see Downtown and UT Austin.
