Where is Highland in Austin, and where is Centro in it?
Highland is a part of northeast Austin around the old Highland Mall site, Airport Boulevard and the I-35 and US 290 interchange. Centro Studio Homes is at 824 Camino La Costa, Austin, TX 78752, and calls its area the Highland neighborhood. The ZIP code is 78752.
Highland has no single published border in the sources we read, so think of it as an area. Wikipedia’s Crestview page says Crestview is bordered by “the Highland neighborhood and North Lamar Boulevard to the east.” That puts Highland just east of Crestview. Centro lists its location as “close to major freeways I35, 290 & 183.” You can read more in our Highland neighborhood glossary entry and see the grounds on the interactive property map.
How we measured: every distance on this page starts from the U.S. Census geocode for the address (latitude 30.329255, longitude -97.704544). The point sits on Camino La Costa, not on a building. “Straight line” means a line on the map. “By road” means an OSRM routing estimate with no traffic. Walk, bike and transit figures come from Google Maps data we queried on 2026-11-02. Each figure carries its basis.
What is the history of the Highland Mall site?
The site at Highland Mall Boulevard was a shopping center for decades, and now it holds a college campus. ACC says Highland Mall “opened in 1971 as Austin’s largest regional shopping center and the city’s first indoor mall.” The mall closed in 2015, and ACC Highland Campus opened its first phase in 2014.
ACC describes the site today as “an anchor to a mixed-use community that includes parks and trails, apartments, office space, restaurants, and shops.” ACC Highland is a campus of Austin Community College. Its address is 6101 Highland Campus Dr., Austin, TX 78752. ACC’s site plan for the area lists “800,000 square feet office space, 150,000 square feet retail space, 1,200 residential units with affordable housing options.” Those are planned figures. We have not confirmed that they are built. Our page on apartments near ACC Highland lists the campus facts and routes, and the ACC Highland glossary entry defines the term.

Rail and at least four bus routes serve the Highland Station area. CapMetro’s Red Line, route 550, “has 10 stations from Downtown to Leander,” and Highland (ACC) is one of them. Highland Station is at Airport Boulevard and Highland Mall Boulevard, directly across from the old mall.
Wikipedia lists the station’s bus routes as 7 Duval/Dove Springs, 324 Ohlen/Georgian, 337 Koenig/Colony Park and 350 Airport Blvd. CapMetro’s schedules effective August 16, 2026 to January 9, 2027 list ACC Highland and Highland Station as destinations for routes 7, 324, 337 and 350. Near Centro itself, Google Maps data from 2026-11-02 showed route 337 at the 1016 and 1017 Camino La Costa/La Posada stops and route 300 at the 900 and 801 St Johns/Bennett stops. The Metrorail Red Line glossary entry and the Highland Station entry explain the terms. Our guide to getting around Highland without a car covers every route in detail.

Airport Boulevard ties several Highland landmarks together. Highland Station sits on it at Highland Mall Boulevard. Route 350 Airport Blvd lists ACC Highland and Highland Station as destinations. Crestview Station is on North Lamar Boulevard at Airport Boulevard and opened in 2010.

How do you check a distance claim on any apartment listing?
Ask what the number measures and where it starts. A listing may say “minutes from” a place without saying whether it means a straight line, a drive, or a walk. Use the steps below on any listing, including ours.
- Find the basis: straight line, road, walk, bike or transit.
- Find the start point: the front door, the leasing office or a map pin.
- Find the hour: free-flow or rush hour.
- Test one trip yourself before you sign.
Centro’s address sits on Camino La Costa, and every figure on this page starts at that point. The commute table shows the basis in every row.
