## What is the ACC Highland campus?

ACC Highland is a campus of Austin Community College at 6101 Highland Campus Dr., Austin, TX 78752. ACC says it was transformed from what was once Highland Mall. The campus phone is 512-223-7300. See the [ACC Highland glossary entry](https://centro.multisites.ai/glossary/acc-highland) for a short definition.

ACC lists these facts about the site:

- Highland Mall opened in 1971. ACC began buying sections in 2010 and bought the last portion in late 2012.
- The campus covers 1.3 million square feet of indoor space on 81 acres.
- Phase 1 of the campus opened in 2014. Highland Mall closed in 2015.
- Programs include culinary arts, fashion design, music, radio-TV-film and game design.
- The ACCelerator learning hub has more than 600 computer stations.
- ACC Highland is home to the Texas A&M Engineering Academy sponsored by Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

## What else is planned at the Highland site?

ACC describes ACC Highland as the anchor of a mixed-use community with parks and trails, apartments, office space, restaurants and shops. The site plan lists 800,000 square feet of office space, 150,000 square feet of retail space and 1,200 residential units with affordable housing options. These are plans, and we do not confirm what is built today.

Two public spaces on ACC’s pages are worth knowing: Jacob Fontaine Plaza and St. John Encampment Commons. Both appear in OpenStreetMap near the site. Check hours and access on the ACC site before you plan a visit. For the wider area, read the [Highland neighborhood page](https://centro.multisites.ai/highland-austin-apartments) and the [Highland neighborhood glossary entry](https://centro.multisites.ai/glossary/highland-neighborhood).

Read the [deposits page](https://centro.multisites.ai/deposits) and the glossary entries for [security deposit](https://centro.multisites.ai/glossary/security-deposit) and [weeks free](https://centro.multisites.ai/glossary/weeks-free). ## Why does the straight-line distance differ from the walk?

A straight line ignores roads, fences and highways. The route you walk or drive must follow streets. Between Centro and the campus, the I-35 frontage road forces a longer path, which is why 0.6 miles in a straight line becomes 1.2 miles on foot.

This is common in Austin. Always ask which basis a distance uses: straight line, by road or on foot. A listing that says “close to campus” without a basis does not tell you how long the trip takes. We name the basis for every number on this page so you can compare it with what other listings say.

## What should I check before I rely on the campus distance?

Walk the route once, open the CapMetro trip planner for your hours, and compare the measured numbers on this page with your own test. Distances here come from public map data, and times come from routing tools, not from a promise by Centro.

Ask the leasing office about parking, the bus stop nearest your door, and which home is open on your move-in date. Use the [tour checklist](https://centro.multisites.ai/guides/apartment-tour-checklist) to keep your questions in one place. Centro is in ZIP code 78752, and the [78752 glossary entry](https://centro.multisites.ai/glossary/zip-code-78752) explains the area.
